SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

On August 5, 2016 at approximately 7:25 am, a member of the Vermont State Police was participating in VSP operation STRIVE (Safe Travel on Roads In Vermont Everyday) ,which focuses on deterrence and enforcement of Speed, Aggressive Driving and Distracted Driving, when he stopped a motorcycle traveling southbound on Interstate 91 (I91) in Vernon for speeding.  The motorcycle had been traveled at speeds in excess of 100 MPH.  The operator, Mr. Samuel J. Ovitt, 20 of Montague, MA, was arrested for Excessive Speed and Negligent Operation of a motor vehicle.  Mr. Ovitt was transported to the Brattleboro Police Department for processing.  Mr. Ovitt was released on a citation to report to the Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division on September 27, 2016 at 8:00 am for arraignment.
