UPDATED SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

Vermont State Police has identified the male found unconscious at the Rock of Ages Quarry as 30 year old Justin Kirby of Orleans County. Vermont State Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading to Kirby’s injuries and the circumstances leading to Kirby being located at the quarry. The State Police continue to believe there is no immediate threat to public safety regarding this incident. This investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information regarding Kirby’s circumstances is asked to contact the State Police.

Investigation is ongoing and the State Police believe there is no immediate threat to public safety. If any member of the general public witnessed any suspicious activity in the area of the Rock of Ages quarry, they are urged to call the State Police barracks.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On August 23, 2016, Vermont State Police were asked to assist the Barre Town Police Department with a suspicious circumstance at one of the Rock of Ages quarry. It was reported that a male had exited a wooded area became unconscious in a parking lot with possible injuries. The male was subsequently transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center for emergency care. VSP detectives responded to the hospital and the scene in an attempt to identify and interview the male. Due to the male’s medical conditions he was unable to communicate and he had no identification on his person. The male is described as a Caucasian male with dark colored hair and some facial hair, approximately  5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall weighing approximately 140 pounds. The male is believed to be between 18 to 25 years of age.  The State Police and the Barre Town Police department are requesting the public’s assistance seeking information on any missing persons in the area of Barre Town and Williamstown. Any persons who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the Rock of Ages vicinity is asked to contact the State Police.
