MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH

LOCATION: US Route 4 in Rutland Town, Vermont.  

 

VEHICLE:

OPERATOR: Louis Belfore     

AGE: 73

SEAT BELT? None

CITY, STATE OF RESIDENCE: Killington, Vermont   

 

DESCRIPTION OF VEHICLE: 2011 Kia Sorrento    

 

DAMAGE TO VEHICLE: Undercarriage; front bumper / hood / driver’s and passenger’s side quarter panels. 

 

INJURIES: Louis Belfore was transported to the Rutland Regional Medical Center by Regional Ambulance Service.  

 

WEATHER: Cloudy  

 

ROAD COND:  Clear

 

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On the above date and time, members of the Rutland Town Fire Department, as well as Regional Ambulance Service responded to US Route 4 at Altrui Place in Rutland Town, Vermont for a report of a single vehicle crash with injuries and air bag deployment.    

 

Investigation at the scene found that 73 year old Louis Belfore of Killington, Vermont was driving east on US Route 4 when he had a medical emergency (possible stroke).  Belfore’s vehicle went left of center, off the roadway and into a sign / rock wall at Needham Electric Supply.  This caused significant damage to his vehicle and the sign.   Members of the above fire department and rescue squad assisted with getting him out of his car. 

 

Belfore was transported to the hospital and treated for a possible stroke.  His vehicle was towed by Carrara’s Services of Rutland, Vermont. 

 

The State Police would like to thank several witnesses who stopped and rendered aid until first responders arrived.  The crash remains under investigation.
