SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:
On July 22, 2016, at approximately 00:35 hours, a Trooper stopped a vehicle on South Street, in the town of Bennington (VT) for a vehicle equipment violation.  While speaking to the operator, the Trooper observed a different vehicle drift off the travel portion of South Street and crash into a curb.  The impact caused both the front and rear passenger’s side tires of the vehicle to blow.  The vehicle failed to immediately yield and continued driving south (sparks flying) until Troopers caught up to the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Troopers identified the operator as Sarah Harris, age 37, of Bennington (VT).  In the back of the vehicle was a four (4) year old child.

Further investigation led Troopers to suspect that Harris was operating under the influence of alcohol.  After completion of the Standard Field Sobriety Tests, Harris was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI.   Harris provided a sample of breath roadside, which indicated her BAC was .177 % - more than twice the legal limit of .08 %.  Harris later refused to provide an evidentiary sample of breath.

Harris was later processed at the Bennington Police Department.  At the conclusion of processing, Harris was released with Court ordered conditions of release to abide by.  Harris is scheduled to appear in Bennington County Superior Court/ Criminal Division on July 25, 2016, at 12:30 hours.
