Operation Vigilant Guard Exercise Operations Schedules

WATERBURY, VT – Operation Vigilant Guard, a full-scale disaster exercise featuring 5,000 local, state, and federal responders will begin July 25 and run through August 2.  The exercise will test responders' abilities under extreme emergency circumstances.

The simulation will play out in nearly 50 locations throughout Vermont and include state agencies, local communities, 16 hospitals, and the Vermont National Guard among many others.  Parts of the exercise will be played out under staged circumstances (a debris pile that was built ahead of time will be searched during the exercise, for example.)

Below is a list of when and where parts of the exercise will take place.

Please note the following:

·        -The Vermont National Guard Public Affairs office will be providing information on Guard participation.  Contact Major Christopher Gookin at 802-338-3324 for those details.

·        -Please respect exercise operations – a Controller or Participant will let you know the parameters of access for each site to ensure those taking part are able to perform their tasks and to keep observers and press safe.

·        -If you plan on covering an event that is happening in any location outside of the State Emergency Operations Center you must contact the city, town, hospital, or other facility host to get permission to be on site. DEMHS cannot grant access to any site that does not belong to us.

·        -When visiting a site, members of the press will need to obtain a badge that tells those involved in the exercise that you are "REAL" media.  This will avoid confusion between actual press and simulated press.  This will ensure factual, real-life, information is relayed to the public (differentiated from simulated exercise information).
