SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On July 22, 2016 beginning at 06:00am VSP Williston Troopers conducted a directed patrol on I89 between exits 16 and 17 southbound. The focus of the patrol, based on recent citizen complaints was to reduce aggressive operation including speeding and tailgating. Troopers are also attempting to reduce serious injury and fatal collisions in the state. The detail was part of an ongoing STRIVE grant.
During the patrol Troopers stopped Jake I. Hodgdon 35 y/o of Swanton VT for traveling at 100 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone. Hodgdon was operating a 2000 Camaro SS. During the stop Hodgdon was found to be in possession of a controlled substance not prescribed to him. Hodgdon was civilly suspended in Vermont at the
time of the stop and had no insurance for his vehicle. Hodgdon was taken into custody and transported to the Vermont State Police Barracks in Williston for processing. His car was towed. Hodgdon will be required to appear in Chittenden District Court on August 23, 2016 to answer to the above charges.
Troopers continue to remind motorists to drive safely on I89 to prevent serious bodily injury and fatal collisions. To date there have been 35 fatal collisions in the State of Vermont. Troopers will be continuing to patrol I89 at various times.
