SUMMARY OF CRASH: On July, 14, 2016, at approximately 0838 hours, dispatch
advised of a three-car motor vehicle collision near the intersection of US Route
7 and VT Route 17 W in the Town of New Haven. Upon arrival, State Police met
with Operator#1, identified as Peter Lynch. Lynch advised that prior to the
collision, he was travelling southbound on US Route 7 at approximately 40 mph
when he could see vehicles slowing ahead of him. Lynch advised that he slowed to
about 15-20 mph near the intersection with VT Route 17 W and that he briefly
glanced down to grab his bagel off of the passenger seat. When he looked back up
the vehicles ahead of him were completely stopped. Lynch stated that he
attempted to stop, but collided with the vehicle in front of him. State Police
subsequently spoke with Operator#2, identified as Becky Quesnel. Quesnel advised
that prior to the collision, she was travelling southbound on US Route 7.
Quesnel advised that the vehicle in front of her slowed and then came to a
complete stop as they approached the intersection with VT Route 17 W. Quesnel
advised that she slowed and came to a stop and that she was subsequently
rear-ended. Lastly, State Police spoke with Operator#3, identified as Cecile
Gebo. Gebo advised that prior to the collision, she was travelling southbound on
US 7 when she noticed a vehicle in the northbound lane waiting to turn onto VT
Route 17 W. Gebo advised that she slowed and eventually stopped to let the
vehicle turn. Gebo advised that she was subsequently rear-ended by the vehicle
behind her. All vehicles involved sustained moderate contact damage. Lynch was
not injured, while Quesnel and Gebo were treated for soreness. State Police do
not believe alcohol or drugs played a factor in the collision.
