SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On June 29, 2016 at approximately 2020 hours, members of the Vermont State Police responded to a vandalism complaint at the parking area for the Long Trail/Swinging Bridge on VT 103 in the Town of Shrewsbury. Initial investigation revealed Paul Z. Bassalin parked his vehicle in the parking area while hiking with friends. When he returned to the vehicle, he found significant damage had been done to the vehicle consisting of damage to the body, headlight, windows and other parts of the vehicle. Bassalin also discovered a hand-written note, apparently left by an unidentified witness to the crime. This note described the suspect and suspect vehicle.

Further investigation has led to the identification of a person of interest in this vandalism. Troopers are asking for assistance from the public in this investigation and wish to speak with the unidentified person who left the note on Bassalin’s vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Jeffrey Stephenson at the Rutland Barracks, 802-773-9101. Tips and other information can be left at the links below.

In addition to the vandalism to Bassalin’s vehicle, a second vehicle in the parking lot was also vandalized. At this time, it is unknown if the two vandalisms are related or were perpetrated by the same person(s).
