SUMMARY OF CRASH: On 7/24/16 at approximately 1207 hours the State Police received a call from Josh Perry advising that he had just struck a bicyclist with his side-view mirror on US Route 5, near S Pine Banks Rd, in the Town of Putney.

The cyclist was identified as Thomas Hinckley. Investigation revealed that Perry was traveling north on US Route 5 and came upon Hinkley who was riding his bicycle north on the shoulder. Perry advised that he was coming over a hillcrest and did not see Hinkley on the shoulder. Partially due to his truck having oversized side-view mirrors, the passenger side mirror struck Hinkley in the back and side, just under his left arm.

Perry pulled to the side, called 911, and attempted to aid Hinkley until an ambulance arrived.

Perry was issued a ticket for Improperly passing a vulnerable user, a violation of Title 23 VSA section 1033(b). Hinkley was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his back and side.
