July 13th Press conference: Vigilant Guard statewide emergency exercise update
Vermont statewide exercise starting July 25 will include local, state, and federal responders
WATERBURY, VT – Local and State emergency responders will team with federal counterparts in a full-scale emergency exercise in Vermont later this month. Operation Vigilant Guard will commence from July 25-August 2 in several areas of Vermont. The exercise will involve 4,000 emergency responders, members of the National Guard, and partners in emergency response.
Governor Peter Shumlin will join Vermont Division of Emergency Management & Homeland Security Director Christopher Herrick and Vermont National Guard Major General Steven Cray to discuss some details of the exercise, including scope and objectives, at a press conference July 13th at Camp Johnson in Colchester.
A debris pile that was constructed for the exercise and apparatus that will be used by responders will be on display.
