SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On June 26th, 2016 at approximately 1526 hrs, Trooper Filipek was on patrol on VT RT 207 in Swanton and discovered a recent Motor Vehicle Crash. A truck left the traveled portion of the roadway, broke a utility pole, crashed into a nearby barn and caught fire. The vehicle was operated by Rene Lafromboise (age 62). Missisquoi Valley Rescue, Swanton Fire Department, and FairPoint Electric responded to the scene. The vehicle was engulfed in flames, totaled, and the barn received fire damage as well. Due to the power lines down, nearby power outages were experienced. Speed, and drugs/alcohol were not a factor in this crash, as the operator was not impaired and admitted to falling asleep.  For safety reasons the road was closed for approximately one hour.  The operator received only minor scrapes and bruises, as he was wearing his seatbelt and airbags deployed.

As a reminder, VSP stresses the importance of seatbelts and proper child restraints for occupant safety and injury prevention.
