UPDATE: Humane Society Theft

PRESS RELEASE UPDATE

On June 16, 2016 at approximately 12:35 pm, the Vermont State police received a report of a stolen dog from the Rutland County Humane Society. The dog was described as a 1 year old terrier mix named “Fred.” An investigation was conducted, with the assistance of the Rutland County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Forestry Service. The investigation led law enforcement to the Mt Tabor Federal Forest, where the annual gathering of the “Rainbow Family of living light” is being held. “Fred” was located and police were able to arrest Melanie Vangel,  20 years old  of Camden, Maine. Vangel was issued a citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court, Criminal Division on July 25, 2016 to answer the charge of Petite Larceny.

The Vermont State Police would like to thank everyone for their help and support throughout this investigation.
