SUMMARY OF CRASH: On 06/05/16 at approximately 2002 hours, Vermont State Police
were dispatched to a single vehicle crash involving a Tractor Trailer Unit on US
RT 7, Sunderland, just north of the North Road overpass. It was reported the
tractor trailer unit had gone off the road and into the woods approximately 50
feet from the roadway. It was further reported by passers-by who had stopped to
render aid, that the male driver of the tractor trailer was unconscious and not
breathing.

Troopers arrived on scene and began investigating the crash. The driver had been
removed from the tractor trailer by rescue personnel and was subsequently
transported to the Southwest Vermont Medical Center. The driver was pronounced
dead at the hospital. Marks at the scene indicate the tractor trailer drifted
out of the southbound lane of travel and onto the west shoulder of US RT 7. The
Tractor Trailer unit continued to drift into the woodline approximately 50 feet
from the road and came to a stop upon colliding with a large tree. US RT 7 was
shut down and traffic was re-routed at exits 3 and 4 and eventually to a single
lane of traffic for several hours while the investigation was conducted and the
tractor trailer unit was removed. Arlington Fire and Manchester Fire Departments
assisted with the task of re-routing traffic. Arlington Fire Department
responded to the crash scene as well.

As of the time of this press release, there are no witnesses to the actual
crash. This crash is still under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed
the crash is encouraged to contact Trooper Wayne Godfrey of the Vermont State
Police, Shaftsbury Barracks at 802-442-5421.
