SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On 06/12/16 at approximately 17:30 hours VSP Williston was notified of a single vehicle crash on Nashville Rd. in the town of Jericho.  Troopers from the Williston barracks as well as the Underhill/Jericho Fire Department and Richmond Rescue responded to the scene.

Investigation into the crash revealed that Kirk Counter, age 41 of St. Albans, was traveling along Nashville Rd when he traveled off the shoulder of the roadway and collided with 3 trees.  The crash caused severe damage to Counter's 2012 Chevy truck.  Counter advised that he had been distracted while texting and driving.

During the investigation it was suspected that Counter had been operating while under the influence of alcohol.  A roadside preliminary breath sample was obtained and indicated a BAC of 0.155%.

Counter was transported to UVM Medical Center by Richmond Rescue and was later released.  He was then taken into custody for suspicion of DUI.  He was processed at the Williston State Police barracks and released with a Citation to Appear in Chittenden Superior Court on 06/30/16 to answer the charge of Driving while Under the Influence.
