Sex Offender Registry Compliance Check Operation
Throughout the evening of May 26, 2016, a multi-agency law enforcement team will be conducting Sex Offender Registry compliance checks throughout Windham County. Windham County law enforcement and probation officers attempted to conduct approximately 104 address and conditions compliance checks on sex offenders registered with the Vermont Sex Offender Registry. Vermont Title 13 VSA 5415 designates Vermont’s Special Investigations Units to be responsible for monitoring the Vermont Sex Offender Registry requirements and are authorized to coordinate in person registry compliance checks at a time, place, and manner they deem appropriate to accomplish the purposes of the statute. This compliance check operation was organized by the Southeast Unit for Special Investigations, the Vermont Criminal Information Center and the Vermont State Police.
Agencies taking part in the evening’s county wide operation are: Bellows Falls Police Department, Brattleboro Police Department, Dover Police Department, Brattleboro Probation & Parole, Southeast Unit for Special Investigations, Springfield Probation & Parole, U.S. Marshal’s Service, Vermont Criminal Information Center, Vermont State Police, Wilmington Police Department, and Windham County Sheriff’s Department.
A majority of the 104 checks are suspected to be completed this evening and the remainder follow-up checks will take place during the next several days. An updated media release containing compliance and violation details will be submitted once the final numbers have been calculated by the Southeast Unit for Special Investigations.
