SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 05/19/16 at approximately 2006 hours, VSP Williston received a call from an out of state family member advising that Sandra Bartholow and one of her adult sons were hiking on the trail system at the Underhill State Park in the Town of Underhill. VSP Williston was advised that as the two were on their way back down the trail, Bartholow slipped on a rock causing her to fall and injure one of her ankles. VSP Williston was advised Bartholow stated she was still able to exit the trail, approximately another 1.5 miles, on her own but due to the injury, was moving slow and was now concerned as the sun was going down.
Based on the above, VSP Williston requested the assistance of the Underhill / Jericho Fire Department to respond to the trail head and if needed to assist in getting Bartholow out of the woods.
At approximately 2120 hours, Bartholow and her son exited the trail system. Bartholow’ s ankle was checked by members of the Essex Rescue Squad on scene and found to be a bad sprain. Once care on scene was complete, all involved cleared this incident.
