Press Release

The following press release is submitted by the Vermont State Police on behalf of Fire Chief Jeff Duda of the Champion Fire Company in South Londonderry Vermont. 

Subject: South Londonderry Brush Fire 4/19-20/2016
Press Release

On April 19 @ 723 pm, South Londonderry Fire was dispatched to a brush fire at 3715 Under The Mountain Road in South Londonderry. Upon arrival of the first unit a 2nd alarm was struck for a brush/forest fire extending up Glebe Mountain from directly behind the residence. A few minutes later a 3rd alarm was struck for manpower with a special call for DHART for helicopter assistance. Additional resources were called to the ridge line from the Windham side in the area of Toad road. With the help of the Helicopter, crews were able to obtain a perimeter and the fire was contained at about 1100 pm. Over 100 firefighters answered the call for assistance. 14.6 acres were burned and no fire personnel were injured. The cause of the fire was determined by Vermont State Police Fire Investigators to be accidental.

South Londonderry Crews with help from Weston, Wardsboro and Vermont Forest and Parks returned to the scene at 0645 4/20 to check the lines and extinguish hot spots.
