The Vermont State Police disseminate press releases for significant criminal or public safety incidents and arrests, but it is not intended to document every public contact or response to a call-for-service. If you have a question regarding an incident or case, please contact your local state police barracks or the public information officer. Please note press releases are available on this blog for 6 months following their public release. Please contact the public information officer if you need access to one that is older.

DPS/VSP Email Delays

Over the weekend of March 26th  2016, a technical issue developed with the server that the Department of Public Safety uses to send press releases to the public and media.  A recent increase in spam being received by DPS caused a response in the system that shut down our email server.  As a result, only one server was being utilized for sending all state government emails.  This created major delays in many of the Vermont State Police press releases issued during the last few days.

The Vermont Department of Information and Innovation(DI&I), which runs the server, is working to resolve the issue.  The Department of Public Safety is also working to avoid a similar problem in the future, and is currently prepared to utilize a backup process if this situation persists.

We apologize to the public and media for any confusion caused by the delays.  If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact the Vermont State Police PIO Scott Waterman.  If you are not receiving emails and normally do, please let us know.
